The Maktoums Legends of the Turf 7th Edition. Three decades ago the roots of racing’s Maktoum Era were sown. During the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales at Newmarket, the Curragh Bloodstock Agency purchased three lots on behalf of two owners who were new to the sport.
The arrival of the two Sheikh’s from Dubai, the young Sheikh Maktoum and Sheikh Mohammed, as owners, may have been unheralded in 1976, but over the subsequent three decades they and Sheikh Hamdan and Sheikh Ahmed would not only go on to become among the world's greatest owners but also the most influential family ever to enter the history books of the sport.
The seventh edition of The Maktoums: Legends of the Turf, offers readers the most comprehensive view of this 30 year involvement with thoroughbred racing, focusing on the careers of the great champions to have competed and represented the family on the racecourse.
The book also highlights the great Maktoum owned breeding farms across the globe and the background on each sheikh’s involvement in racing. In addition, the book focuses on the history and culture that surrounds the Maktoum’s family’s passion for racing and the horse – from the Godolphin Arabian to Godolphin of Dubai.
